The St Elizabeth Hospice Garden

Suffolk Show 2018

We were approached by trustees to design a garden for the county show.  The brief was to create a reflective space, surrounded by planting that, post-show, would be relocated to the Hospice in Ipswich.  Budget was tight.

With the help of pro bono work and donations, we created a soft and secluded, naturalistic space accessed via two curving pathways. The main area, circular in form, nestles into a simple turf earthwork, planted with multi-stemmed Malus sylvestris.  A bespoke, semi-circular timber and metalwork bench provided seating.

Off-centre, a smaller, more solitary space, also with a bench, was furnished with a water bowl.  Planting beds occupied the south and west elevations.  Cottage garden favourites and ornamental grasses were combined to create a nostalgic planting scheme.

The garden has been relocated and rebuilt in part at St Elizabeth Hospice, Ipswich.

The garden was generously constructed by DTaylor Landscapes.
