“Frederic has approached the project with great sensitivity. The garden has come to life again. His planting schemes are, in one word, gorgeous” Annabelle Davies
A Cotswolds Manor House
A stunning late Jacobean mansion surrounded by four acres of Arts and Crafts gardens and parkland. The clients were eager to renovate the garden. Optimizing existing elements and implementing new designs, this ongoing project includes extensive tree clearance and the establishing of a harmonious relationship between garden, parkland and the surrounding countryside.
Following many onsite visits and consultations, a master plan was devised from which to agree a schedule of work. To date, the existing entrance has been simplified with a bold, contemporary interpretation of historic entrance courts. New railings, with period onion dome details were designed and installed. Future innovations include raised pools within the parterres. The main entrance courtyard has been enlivened by the formal planting of six multi-stem Amelanchier lamarckii.
The neglected Arts & Crafts formal garden to the rear of the property was replanted last year. Existing borders were widened and filled with sumptuous, sultry perennials, irises and roses for a long-lasting floral display.
Throughout the garden and parkland, axes and vistas through each area and out into the countryside are being created. Future plans include a Meadow Garden and a Secret Garden which includes three large reflective water pools dissected by turf steps and surrounded by flowering cherries.
