“Every year the garden grows and grows. His plant choices were perfect and everything thrives. Every year Freddy's vision matures and brings me an infinity of pleasure.” Mario Fortunato
Italian and Evergreen
The property, a spectacular contemporary renovation overlooking the upper Tiber valley, is owned by a renowned Italian novelist and cultural commentator. The brief was to create a low-maintenance, evergreen garden of open spaces; visually integrating the main house, study, guest cottages, and surrounding Olive Grove.
Inspired by Villa Lante nearby, the design uses strong axes and bold blocks of clipped, Mediterranean evergreens. In addition to the play of foliage textures and forms, clusters of drought-tolerant, flowering plants add seasonal colour and character.
Future plans: pavilion and evergreen garden around the swimming pool.
